Mirissa Beach

Mirissa Beach is the heart of the action, where the main stretch is lively and bustling, with plenty of restaurants, bars, and sun loungers. If you want a more relaxed vibe, head to the western end by turning right when you hit the beach). With a quieter atmosphere, away from the crowds, it’s perfect for soaking up the sun in peace. You can also catch the waves or watch surfers in action in this area that features a beautiful surf break.

Tangalle Beach

Taking centre stage is the Tangalle Beach, which stretches as far as the eye can see. Fringed by palm trees, the turquoise blue waters of this beach attract many beach lovers seeking peace and quiet. While the currents can be strong in some areas, this expansive beach is ideal for scenic walks, especially at dawn or sunset.

Home to a chain of pristine beaches with turquoise blue water, endless sandy shores and mangroves, Tangalle is a tropical paradise on the southern coast. Located 195 kilometers away from Colombo, Tangalle is a relatively tranquil beach resort still untouched by mass tourism, offering a peaceful escape away from the hustle and bustle.


Situated on one of the largest and magnificent bays in the island, Tangalle is a land of contrasts — quiet bays protected by reefs, endless sandy shores perfect for sunrise strolls, and mangroves that add a lush, green backdrop to the blue waters.

The Jungle Beach


Tucked away below The Peace Pagoda, is Jungle Beach — a perfect spot for an unforgettable snorkelling experience. This semi-hidden cove offering a quieter beach experience is also the place to be if you wish to do nothing but swim, relax and just savour the moment since this beach is uncluttered.

 

The Dalawella Beach


If your Insta feed needs a little magic, Dalawella Beach is where you’ll find it. Known for its famous Insta-worthy palm tree rope swing, it’s your chance to fly out over the Indian Ocean in the most photogenic way possible. And if you’re lucky, you might even spot turtles swimming just off the shore.

 

Secret Beach


Despite its name, Secret Beach is now well-known among travellers, but it still holds its charm. This hidden gem is divided into two sections that meet at a rocky headland, each offering a unique experience. The first beach is perfect for swimming and snorkeling and highlights include turtles cruising in the crystal-clear waters.


The second beach, which is just around the corner, has a waist-deep lagoon best for floating around. Protected by rocks, this lagoon is the perfect spot to cool off even when the sea is rough.

 

Goyambokka and Pallikaduwa Beach


The Goyambokka beach and Pallikaduwa beach are two twin bay beaches offering two unique vibes, located 10-minutes away from the heart of the city of Tangalle.


Goyambokka Beach: A secluded beach with palm trees lined along the shores, crystal clear waters and stunning views.
Pallikaduwa Beach: Made up of a string of rocky caves, the shoreline of this scenic beach is covered with rocky caves and little sand. In comparison to the atmosphere at Goyambokka, the atmosphere here is a little bit more upscale.


Marakolliya Beach


Situated beyond Medilla is Marakolliya Beach with endless sandy shores and tall palm trees. This untouched haven has no guesthouses or restaurants, making it the perfect spot for privacy and total relaxation.


Medaketiya and Medilla Beach


For swimming and unwinding, look no further than Medaketiya and Medilla. Located to the east of town, these beaches offer long stretches of golden sand bordered by the ocean on one side and serene mangroves on the other. Quiet and uncrowded, they’re perfect for losing yourself in the tranquil beauty of Tangalle.
