The Pekoe Trail is the most scenic and immersive long-distance hiking trail in Sri Lanka. Approximately 300 km long, it winds its way through the beautiful central highlands, offering tourists a true taste of the island’s history, culture, and natural wonders.
Why Visit Pekoe Trail?

The Pekoe Trail is a network of old tea estate roads and footpaths that have been transformed into a well-marked hiking route. The Pekoe Trail is divided into multiple sections, with each exhibiting a unique theme of Sri Lanka’s central highlands. Along one route, the trekkers are led from Nuwara Eliya to Kandapola through scenic tea plantations and peaceful pine forests.
Another route, connecting Haputale to Lipton’s Seat, is breathtakingly open, offering incredible panoramic views of hills in the near surroundings, exemplifying the spirit of the highlands. The iconic Ella to Demodara section is famous for passing under the iconic Nine Arches Bridge, ultimately culminating near the captivating Demodara Loop railway line. Additionally, the Hatton to Talawakelle route winds through green tea estates and provides vistas of seductive waterfalls, emphasizing the area’s lush natural landscape.
